About Feedora Batiks...

Each design is created by Feedora at her farm on the Big Island of Hawaii, and then beautifully executed by the talented craftspeople at her other home, an upcountry village in Bali, Indonesia. Feedora learned the art of BATIK from the women in her Balinese village. She has been working in Bali with these local artists and artisans for almost 20 years -- and she speaks their language (this helps!). 

Started as a cottage industry to help the village women earn enough money from their remarkable craft skills to pay for their children's schooling (there is no free public education in Indonesia.), Feedora's "HELP WOMEN PROJECT" has become a successful small business producing and distributing sarongs and other batik items to retail stores and boutiques all over the Hawaiian Islands. 

All Sarongs are completely HAND MADE of the highest quality rayon and the best colorfast batik dyes (since, in the batiking process, the wax resist must be BOILED out of the fabric). Fifteen women labor for 4 days to complete one sarong, depending on sunny weather to fix the dyes, so only limited quantities can be produced.
